Died 2 April 1872, aged 53

Died of a fractured skull received ejecting a drunk from a liquor shop.


PC William Lines

Died 24 March 1875, aged 30

Fatally stabbed when attacked by a mob attempting to free a prisoner.


PC George Snipe

Died 19 July 1897, aged 29

Fatally injured when attacked by a mob attempting to free a prisoner.


PC Charles Phillip Gunter

Died 26 October 1901, aged 24

Fatally injured by a brick thrown by a disorderly gang he had warned.


SC George Croydon

Died 11 October 1915, aged 54

Accidentally struck by a train while on protection duty at a rail tunnel.

Died 23 May 1928, aged 31

Died of injuries received when beaten and kicked at a disturbance.

Died 27 December 1930, aged 42

Fatally injured when struck by a car while on bicycle patrol at night.

Fatally injured on cycle patrol when hit by a car, which failed to stop.

Fatally injured by shrapnel whilst on duty dealing with air raid incidents.

Died 11 December 1940, aged 63 Killed off duty in an enemy air raid.

Killed by enemy action whilst on duty in an air raid at Acocks Green.

Killed off duty in an enemy air raid.

Killed by a bomb on fire-watching duties on the police station roof.

Killed by a bomb exploding outside Digbeth Police Station.

Killed in a road accident instructing an advanced driving course.

Crushed by a lorry, which he was assisting to reverse into an alley.

Died 24 March 1964, aged 21

Killed in a road traffic accident whilst on motorcycle patrol.


PC Alan Trevor Turner

Died 19 September 1964, aged 27

Killed in a head-on collision with a car while on motorcycle patrol.


PC Kerim Harry Blakeman

Died 27 June 1966, aged 35 

Collapsed and died pushing a van which was causing an obstruction.


Sgt Anthony Desmond Crowson

Died 22 October 1969, aged 30

Fatally injured when his patrol car was involved in a road accident.

Died 28 February 1973, aged 21

Killed when his police car was in collision with a lorry.

Shot dead attempting to detain 3 absconders in the early morning.

Collapsed and died while on duty.

Fatally stabbed attempting to arrest an absconder armed with a knife.

Posthumously awarded the Queen's Police Medal for Gallantry.

Killed in a patrol car crash while responding to an assistance call.

Killed when his police car skidded on ice on a bend and crashed.

Hit by a lorry and fatally injured  while assisting a motorist on the motorway.

Fatally injured when struck by a car while directing traffic in a road race.

Died 4 February 1984, aged 21

Killed in a fall while searching for suspects on a shop roof at night.

Died 21 July 1986, aged 43

Killed in a road accident travelling to a motorcycle refresher course.


PC Martin Andrew Laucht

Died 11 August 1987, aged 28

Killed in a motorcycle accident riding pillion on surveillance duty.

Died 25 November 1987, aged 38

Fatally injured in a collision with a lorry while on a motorcycle course.


PC Colin John Hall

Died 29 November 1987, aged 40

A dog handler, collapsed and died after helping to quell a disturbance.


PC Gavin Richard Carlton

Died 19 December 1988, aged 29

Shot dead while chasing two bank robbers armed with shotguns.

Posthumously awarded the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct.

Died 16 April 1989, aged 30

Fatally injured when assaulted and robbed while on surveillance duty.

Killed in a patrol car involved in a collision while pursuing a stolen car.

Died 28 April 1996, aged 35

Killed in a road accident while with the British Police Unit in Bosnia.


PC Malcolm Edward Walker

Died 4 October 2001, aged 46

Killed when his motorcycle was rammed trying to stop a stolen car.


DC Robert George Ling

Died 7 October 2002, aged 27

Killed in a car crash escorting two men being extradited from South Africa.


DC Michael Swindells

Died 21 May 2004, aged 44

Stabbed to death attempting to arrest a violent suspect armed with a knife.

Posthumously awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal.


PC Paul Linden Owen

Died 20 October 2004, aged 47

Fatally injured while on duty when he was accidentally struck by a bus.


PC Valroy O'Neil Hodgson

Died 31 December 2004, aged 44

Died from complications of an injury sustained in officer safety training.


PC Deborah Adele Harman-Burton

Died 24 March 2006, aged 28

Killed in a road accident whilst travelling home from night duty.


PC Ryan Michael Hunt

Died 25 May 2006, aged 31

Killed in a road accident while working on an investigation in South Yorkshire.


PC Jonathan Paul Wade

Died 12 March 2007, aged 39

Whilst instructing self defence training he collapsed and died of heart failure.


PC Ramin Tolouie

Died 16 October 2011, aged 40

Died after a collision of a car and his motorcycle returning home from duty.


PC Michael Chapman

Died 14 April 2014, aged 48

Died suddenly of suspected heart failure after being taken ill on duty.
