Robert Nathans

Police Constable

Greater Manchester Police

Died 27 February 1999, aged 49

While on patrol in the early hours in Manchester,  he chased on foot and caught a suspected drunk driver fleeing the scene of an accident; soon after, while driving the police patrol van in Oxford Street, he collapsed and died of heart failure.


Ian Leslie Toomer

Inspector

Dorset Police

Died 20 April 1999, aged 50

Fatally injured in a road accident while night duty Inspector during the early hours, when his unmarked police vehicle hit excess surface water, went out of control and crashed into a cottage in wet weather on the A35 Bridport to Dorchester road near Winterborne Abbas.


Jeffrey Barry James Tooley

Police Constable

Sussex Police

Died 25 April 1999, aged 26

A traffic patrol officer, he was struck by a speeding van which failed to stop, on the night of 24 April, when he was carrying out routine speed checks at Shoreham, and he died as a result of the serious head injuries he received.

His name is recorded on the Roll of Honour at the National Police Memorial in London and a memorial stone was erected at the scene by the Police Memorial Trust.


 Nigel Anthony Heathcote

Police Constable

Cheshire Constabulary

Died 7 May 1999, aged 30

Killed when his unmarked crime patrol car went out of control on a bend and crashed into a tree, while responding to an emergency call, of a burglary in progress, in the early hours at Ellesmere Port.


Stephen Jones

Police Constable

Avon and Somerset Constabulary

Died 17 May 1999, aged 34

During the pursuit of a stolen vehicle on the M48 motorway near Bristol, the officer deployed a 'Stinger' spike strip in front of the vehicle to stop it but it swerved towards him as he stood on the motorway hard shoulder and he was struck and killed.

His name is recorded on the Roll of Honour at the National Police Memorial in London and a memorial stone was erected at the scene by the Police Memorial Trust.


Ian Charles Godfrey

Police Constable

South Wales Police

Died 20 June 1999, aged 30

Killed in a road accident, while observer in a police patrol car on routine patrol in the early hours, when it was  involved in a head on collision with a taxi at Clydach village near Swansea.


Ralph Charles Jones

Police Constable

North Wales Police

Died 13 July 1999, aged 34

Fatally injured whilst engaged on a motorcycle training course when his motorcycle was involved in a road traffic collision.


Andrew Morrison Taylor

Constable

Royal Ulster Constabulary

Died 22 July 1999, aged 46

Collapsed and died while driving home from late shift duty in Belfast.


Peter Thomas Fox

Police Constable

Greater Manchester Police

Died 23 July 1999, aged 31

Killed in a road traffic accident while travelling to report for evening duty when his motorcycle was in collision with a car at Rainford.


Clive Barratt

Detective Constable

Suffolk Constabulary

Died 28 July 1999, aged 35

Fatally injured in a road accident when his unmarked police motorcycle collided with a tractor whilst on surveillance duty at Lowestoft.


   Raja Bashrat Ahmed

Police Constable

Greater Manchester Police

Died 31 August 1999, aged 35

While on motorcycle patrol the officer was rammed by a stolen car he had stopped for a routine check at Miles Platting; his police motorcycle was deliberately shunted into a busy road junction where he was struck by a lorry and fatally injured.

His name is recorded on the Roll of Honour at the National Police Memorial in London and a memorial stone was erected at the scene by the Police Memorial Trust.


Kulwant Singh Sidhu

Police Constable

Metropolitan Police

Died 25 October 1999, aged 24

Late on the night of 24 October, he attended a call to suspects on a roof in Twickenham; in the early hours he was found in the premises, having been fatally injured by a fall through a glass skylight while pursuing the suspects.

His name was inscribed on the Roll of Honour at New Scotland Yard.

His name is recorded on the Roll of Honour at the National Police Memorial in London and a memorial stone was erected at the scene by the Police Memorial Trust.


Stuart George Cookson

Detective Constable

Cheshire Constabulary

Died 2 November 1999, aged 45

Collapsed and died whilst on duty at Widnes Police Station.
