GLOUCESTERSHIRE CONSTABULARY and the constituent force of the Parish of Ruardean LEST WE FORGET Parish of Ruardean Const Henry Thompson Died 14 May 1817, aged 31 Shot dead by a man arrested for attempting to free a female prisoner. Gloucestershire Constabulary Sgt Samuel Beard Died 24 August 1861, aged 37 Fatally bludgeoned and kicked by poachers he confronted at night. Sgt William Morris Died 10 November 1895, aged 32 Killed when attacked by three men and struck on the head with a brick. Sgt Frederick Hale Died 1 June 1904, aged 43 Found drowned in the canal where he was patrolling the banks at night. Died 8 November 1916, aged 40 Fatally injured in an accident while on bicycle patrol at Mitcheldean. Died 26 July 1920, aged 29 Fatally injured apparently having fallen from his bicycle on patrol. SC Ronald Walter Clement Smith Died 19 August 1940, aged 56 Shot by mistake at a Home Guard checkpoint following guard duty. Died 16 April 1964, aged 24 Killed while questioning a lorry driver when hit by another vehicle at Stroud. Died 15 March 1967, aged 26 Accidentally killed when his patrol car lost control and overturned. Ch/Insp Kenneth William George Rogers Died 28 November 1989, aged 48 Killed in a motorcycle accident while travelling to his duties at Police HQ. DC Steven Terence Jeffreys-Jones Died 26 February 2007, aged 47 While on duty he became unwell and died soon afterwards of heart failure. LEST WE FORGET |
