Parish Const Henry Thompson

Died 14 May 1817, aged 31

Shot dead by a man he arrested attempting to free a female prisoner at Lydbrook.

Sgt Samuel Beard

Died 24 August 1861, aged 37

Fatally bludgeoned and kicked by four poachers confronted at night at West Dean.


PC George Phillips

Died 11 January 1872, aged 24

Fatally injured when accidentally hit by a train returning from duty with his sergeant.


PC Maurice Selby

Died 12 February 1874, aged 21

Collapsed on patrol at night and died of natural causes aggravated by a thick fog.


PC Henry Harrold

Died 18 February 1880, aged 21

Accidentally struck and killed by a train while on his night beat near the railway line.


DCC Edward Thomas Chipp

Died 12 July 1892, aged 52

Collapsed and died while a guest at the official opening of the Gloucester Guild Hall.


Sgt William Morris

Died 10 November 1895, aged 32

Killed when attacked by three men he warned and struck on the head with a brick.


Sgt Frederick Hale

Died 1 June 1904, aged 43

Found drowned in the canal at Gloucester where he was patrolling the banks at night.


PC Frederick Treasure

Died 26 November 1915, aged 55

Collapsed and died of heart disease near the end of his shift on a very cold day.


PC Ernest Albert Cooper

Died 8 November 1916, aged 40

Died of a fractured skull in a bicycle accident on a hill while on patrol at Mitcheldean.


PC Walter Henry Hayward

Died 26 July 1920, aged 29

Fatally injured having having accidentally fallen from his bicycle while on patrol.


SC Hubert Jesse Phillips

Died 16 May 1940, aged 42

Found unconscious in a lane on duty at 10.20 pm and died of natural causes.


SC Ronald Walter Clement Smith

Died 19 August 1940, aged 56

After duty he was shot by a Home Guard when failing to stop his car at a checkpoint.


SC William Ashley Sexton

Died 6 June 1941, aged 67

Killed in a collision with a car while cycling to carry out Royal Observer Corps duty.


Insp. Fitzroy Frederick Taylor

Died 23 May 1942, aged 46

Collapsed and died on duty at 10.30 pm in the guardroom at Dursley Police Station.


PC Wilfred Kenneth Clarke

Died 28 January 1946, aged 46

Became ill when taking statements at a hostel and died in hospital in the early hours.


PC Bruce Alway

Died 22 April 1948, aged 49

PC Clifford Fowler Park

Died 23 April 1948, aged 41

Fatally injured off duty by a wall collapse dismantling a hut for use as a police club.


PC Morton John Chappell

Died 16 April 1964, aged 24

Killed with a driver he was questioning when an articulated lorry struck their vehicles.


PC Paul James Pursehouse

Died 15 March 1967, aged 26

Killed as observer in a motor patrol car which accidentally lost control and overturned.


Ch/Insp Kenneth William George Rogers

Died 28 November 1989, aged 48

Killed in a collision of his motorcycle and a van while travelling to duty at Police HQ.


DC Steven Terence Jeffreys-Jones

Died 26 February 2007, aged 47

Became unwell on duty at a police station and died of heart failure soon after at home.
