Deaths by Enemy Action while Off Duty
or where Duty Status is Unknown

During wartime enemy air raids it was common for off duty police officers to assist with Civil Defence work, thereby placing themselves on duty. The names of those identified as having lost their lives in such circumstances are contained in the main Roll of Honour. Below are listed the names of regular and auxiliary police officers who lost their lives by enemy action and who are known to have been off duty or have not been identified as on duty. A number of them may have lost their lives in the above circumstances but it is impossible to say how many.

Names of all war dead including those killed by enemy action in air raids and those killed on military service 1914-1918 & 1939-1945 are recorded within the wartime
Roll of Honour at Westminster Abbey.
