Died 13 December 2008, aged 31

Thames Valley Police Crest

Killed in a road traffic collision while travelling to report for duty at Aylesbury, in the early morning, when her car was struck by another vehicle, which crossed the carriageway travelling in the opposite direction on the A413 at Hoggeston.

Dee was appointed in November 2003 and joined the CID in 2006 working on the Priority Crime Team at Aylesbury where she was recently commended for an off duty arrest.

She is survived by her partner, a serving officer, with whom she had been expecting a baby; her mother and stepfather, her father and her sister.

The four officers died together while responding to a call for assistance from other officers in the early hours when their police vehicle lost control and struck a wall before bursting into flames near Warrenpoint in Co. Down.

All four officers were based at Kilkeel police station in the Newry and Mourne District.

Kevin Gorman joined the Police Service on 12 August 2007.
He is survived by his partner, expecting their second child, and their 4-month-old daughter; his mother and brother.

Declan Greene joined the Police Service on 3 June 2006.
He is survived by his wife, three sons aged 19, 16, and 5 and their daughter aged 3 years; his father, brother and sister.

Kenny Irvine joined the Police Service on 3 December 2006.
He is survived by his wife and baby son, his parents, sister and brother.

James Magee joined the Police Service on 6 November 2005.
He is survived by his parents and two sisters.

Died 26 October 2008, aged 32

Dorset Crest

Killed in a road traffic accident while travelling to report for duty at Bournemouth, in the early morning, when his vehicle left the road and crashed into the wall of a bungalow at Highcliffe.

Ian was appointed to the Force in January 2000 and since January 2007
had been a member of the CID at Bournemouth Police Station.

He is survived by his parents, his sister and his partner.

Died 24 October 2008, aged 48

South Yorkshire Police Crest

Killed in a road traffic accident while responding to an emergency incident
in Sheffield, during the afternoon, when his police motorcycle was involved
in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle in the Darnall area of the city.

Glen had joined the Force in September 1980 and was an experienced traffic officer
serving on the Motorcycle Wing of the Road Policing Group.

He is survived by his wife, their daughter aged 24 and son aged 20 years;
his parents, two sisters and brother.

Died 7 October 2008, aged 45

Devon and Cornwall Crest

Killed in a road traffic accident while going on duty in the early morning, when the unmarked police vehicle he was driving left the road and plunged down an embankment on the A38, at Menheniot near Liskeard.

Kevin joined the Constabulary in 2002, after serving with Thames Valley Police
since 1986, and was working as a Diversity Officer based at St. Austell.

He was born in Scotland and is survived by his parents and older brother.


David Heptinstall

West Yorkshire Police

Died 30 June 2008, aged 41

While travelling to report for duty at Wakefield in the early morning his car left the carriageway and collided with the central reservation on the Wrenthorpe Bypass when he collapsed and died having suffered a heart attack.

David was appointed in 1990, serving in Huddersfield and Wakefield before
joining the Crime Division where he was recently commended for his work.

He is survived by his wife, son aged 18 and daughter aged 16 years.

Died 9 June 2008, aged 32

Greater Manchester Police Crest

Fatally wounded when he was accidentally struck in the chest by a single shot, discharged from a shotgun carried by a colleague, during a firearms training exercise in a disused factory in Newton Heath, North Manchester.

Ian was from Burnley, he joined Greater Manchester Police in 1997
and served on Rochdale Division before joining the Firearms Unit in 2002
where he was an extremely experienced and highly qualified firearms officer.

He is survived by his wife, their daughter aged 4 and son aged 3 years,
his parents and his brother, also a serving police officer.

Died 9 February 2008, aged 43

Metropolitan Police Crest

Killed in a motorcycle accident, whilst travelling to report for early turn duty at Hammersmith, when he crashed on the M1 motorway near Staples Corner.

Noel had completed 24 years service on uniform patrol and the Territorial Support Group
and since 2003 he had been a member of the Mounted Branch, based at Hammersmith.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters aged 17 and 14 years,
his parents and two younger brothers.

Died 29 January 2008, aged 48

Essex Police Crest

Killed in a road traffic accident while travelling to report for duty at Colchester when his motorcycle was in collision with a car near East Bergholt, Suffolk.

 Bob had 26 years service, working with the Metropolitan Police before joining Essex in 1989; he was the Colchester Town Sergeant and was commended 3 times for his work.

He is survived by his two sons aged 20 and 15 years, his mother and brother,
and his fiancee and her four children with whom he lived in Suffolk.

Died 12 January 2008, aged 40

Greater Manchester Police Crest

Killed in a road traffic accident, while responding to an emergency incident
just before midnight, when the police van he was driving was in collision
with a car at Openshaw; the police vehicle overturned and he
sustained major head injuries from which he died instantly.

Christopher had just over four years service and was a response officer based at Bury;
in 2005 he had been awarded a Divisional Commander's commendation for his
professionalism and calmness in helping to rescue a child from a violent incident.

He is survived by his six year old son and his parents of whom he was their
only surviving child following the death of his brother Andrew, aged 17, in 1987.
